REGATTA HISTORY

Throughout the years, the Annapolis Yacht Club and its members have been working hard to build a team racing program that makes other clubs in the U.S. envious of AYC. As with anything built from scratch, AYC's Adult Interclub

Racing program, composed of members who have passion for sailing, was slow going and came with growing pains. In its infancy, team AYC was able to travel to a few regattas hosted by other clubs. At this point, it became very clear that AYC needed to host an event with the pleasure of inviting others to come join us at home.

The big question was:

What would our regatta look like?

AIRC came up with a clever idea. Figure out a way to incorporate both 3v3, 2v2 team racing and bring back 1v1 match racing.  The rotation would force all six crew of each team to perform different roles on each boat throughout the three different disciplines within the entire regatta. It seemed like a great concept on paper, but could it be executed on the water?

In the spring of 2019, we invited local teams to AYC on a Saturday afternoon for a dry run. It was a great success, and the Annapolis YC 3-2-1 Invitational was born.   It was time to invite clubs across the country.

The rest is history.
